Local resident and patient of the Primary Care Centre, Jack Charlton, OBE, met staff and patients at the official opening of the new purpose built £4 million premises in Ponteland on Monday, 24th July, 2006.
The centre has provided a welcome and long awaited new home for White Medical Group and Ponteland Medical Group. Patients and staff are already benefiting from this purpose built modern facility, which will serve some 18,000 patients. Ponteland Primary Care Centre will allow a wider range of services to be brought to the local area and will act as a ’one stop shop’ for local health care, for example, by offering services like minor surgery and podiatry. The increased space has already allowed health and social care professions to come together to work under one roof improving the integration of these services.
Jack Charlton planted a sorbus tree outside the main entrance to mark the official opening and commented, “I hope that in years to come when I visit the centre I can watch this tree grow and blossom”.
