Ponteland Memorial Hall Leek Show

Les Young scooped the first prize in the leek show at the Memorial Hall Leek Show 2008 with leeks which were a country mile ahead of the opposition. He said it was because he grows a prime variety - Cumbrian - for his show leeks. He also knows his onions, scooping firsts in the three different classes. Well done, Les! Second with his leeks was Matt Briggs and third prize went to Hugh Chambers.

Dick Dodsworth is to flowers what Les Young is to vegetables. He says he grew up with the family involved in the commercial growing of flowers and has always had a keen interest. His display of a mixed bunch of flowers and foliage, and then his display of dahlias were both a riot of colour and won the first prizes. He also took first prize with a flowering plant and sneaked a first with his tomatoes.
