Ponteland Park was alive to the sound of a magnificent fairground organ and children’s voices asking for the whereabouts of the ducks. They were obviously very disappointed to learn that there were only pale yellow rubber imitations but they would still have to pay to race one. This was the setting for the annual Duck Races organised by the Ponteland Rotary Club. Ducks were paid for, businesses sponsored the small boats, and five races were shepherded down the Pont. The monies raised all goes to local charities. The Army, the Fire Service, the National Park rescue service and the Bouncy Castle were all there to support the event.
