The judges for the Village in Bloom contest made their final assessment of Ponteland on September 10th. Interested gardeners made their own judgements on the various displays all around the village centre. Athol House sheltered housing has its own green-fingered ladies who won a trophy last year for their efforts in bringing colour and bloom to their gardens. The Ponteland Lions were so impressed by their displays that they gave them a £75 donation to help buy more plants. Mary Short, Thea Morrison and Kathy Bailey have found growing conditions quite tough this year because of the weather but were very pleased to be awarded a silver gilt medal in the best Sheltered Housing/Care Home. Well done ladies! Photo shows Thea Morrison and Mary Short in the garden of Athol House.
